Scott received his undergraduate degree in English and Psychology from Marquette University in 1966. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Denver College of Law in 1969 and began his legal career as an attorney for the Metropolitan Denver Legal Aid Society. Working with the University of Denver College of Law, he was instrumental in establishing and developing the curriculum for one of the first paralegal training programs in the country. In 1971, Scott founded and was director of the first neighborhood legal services clinic in the country staffed entirely by paralegals.
Throughout his legal career Scott has successfully utilized negotiation, mediation and arbitration in resolving his clients’ disputes. He says, “I have consistently found alternative methods of dispute resolution to be far superior to the expense, time and unpredictable outcome of litigation.”
Scott received his initial training and certification in the practice of conflict management and the mediation process from CDR Associates in Boulder, Colorado, in 1998. When not working to resolve conflicts, he does a weekly jazz program on KAJX-FM and is an avid skier, bicyclist and fly fisherman.
