Marty received his B.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota. He became a Professor of Psychology and has taught at Rutgers University and the University of Texas at Austin. He has held several administrative and leadership positions in universities, national and local professional and community associations. He currently practices as a Clinical Psychologist in Aspen, Colorado, after 31 years practicing and teaching in Austin, Texas. Marty also serves as a consultant to the Pitkin County Jail and the Aspen Middle School, and he is on the Allied Health Staff of Aspen Valley Hospital.
Marty is licensed to practice in Colorado and Texas, is a member and a Fellow in the American Psychological Association, and is a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Psychology and in Psychoanalysis. He has published 55 articles, chapters, and reviews and edited or co-authored three books. He has presented papers at professional meetings, has given many public talks, and has been invited to address various groups. He has presented workshops for professionals and lay people and has consulted with mental health agencies.
Marty is known by his friends as a person who loves a good joke and loves to participate in sports and enjoy the outdoors life of the mountains. He also has a keen interest in politics and public affairs.
