The majority of David’s dispute resolution time is spent dealing with financial issues in divorce. David’s involvement with the identification, valuation, and division of over one billion dollars in separate and marital property, along with child and spousal support issues, allows mediating parties to benefit from David’s extensive experience in this area. David is an author, lecturer, and teaches continuing education to attorneys and CPAs on financial issues in divorce. His book, Accounting Guide to Asset Tracing, An Accounting Guide to Establish or Refute the Existence of Separate Property in a Marital Dissolution, is used as a resource guide by Judges, CPA’s, and Attorneys. His articles, Establishing Separate Property Through Asset Tracing after Burford and How Income Taxes Affect Property Settlements have been published in The Colorado Lawyer, are listed in the annotations to the Colorado Property Statutes, and have been cited in rulings by the Colorado Court of Appeals. David’s articles on dispute resolution are published in the Dispute Resolution Counselor Newsletters and can also be found at the following websites: www.assettracing.com, www.divorcesource.com, and www.divorcenet.com.
Following John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High” mantra, David arrived in Aspen from his home state of North Carolina in the fall of 1975. He fell immediately and permanently in love with Aspen’s natural beauty and its fanatically exercising and quirky residents. In his younger days, David was an avid mogul skier and bicycle racer. His current passions include backpacking with his college-aged daughter, mountain biking, and snowboarding. Last summer he completed his third Leadville 100 mountain biking race. David hopes to finish out his life in Aspen as an aging athlete and a participant in the dispute resolution process.
David’s involvement with community activities has included being president and board member of the Aspen Kiwanis Club, treasurer and board member of Ballet Aspen, treasurer and board member of the Aspen Chamber of Commerce, treasurer and board member of the Wildwood School, treasurer of the Aspen Chapter of the Colorado Society of CPAs, and a member of the organizational committee that created the Aspen Resort Association. |
